Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach us at vslaserandskincare@gmail.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

VSLaser Skincare offers a range of services including:

  • Hair removal: IPL can target hair follicles and reduce hair growth over multiple sessions.
  • Skin rejuvenation: Treat sun spots, freckles, and other hyperpigmentation issues.
  • Acne treatment: IPL can help reduce acne outbreaks by targeting bacteria in the skin.
  • Vascular lesions: IPL is effective for treating conditions like spider veins or rosacea.
  • Improved skin tone and texture: IPL stimulates collagen production, improving skin’s overall appearance.

IPL Laser Hair Removal works by emitting a broad spectrum of light that targets the the pigment (melanin) in the hair.

  • Light Energy Absorption: The IPL device releases light in multiple wavelengths. The light is absorbed by the pigment in the hair (melanin), which turns it into heat energy.
  • Damage to Hair Follicle: The heat travels down the hair shaft to the follicle and damages it, disrupting its ability to grow hair in the future.
  • Hair Growth Inhibition: After a few treatments, the follicles are sufficiently damaged to prevent regrowth, though not all hairs will be affected at once since hair grows in cycles.

IPL hair removal is effective over time because it works best when it can target hair in the growth phase, which means spacing treatments out to account for the natural hair growth cycle.

  1. Hair Growth Cycles: Hair doesn't all grow at the same time. It goes through different phases. IPL is most effective during the growth (anagen) phase when the hair is actively growing and attached to the follicle. Since only a portion of your hair is in this phase at any given time, you'll need multiple treatments to target all hairs in the optimal growth phase.
  2. Allowing Hair to Cycle: The typical interval between IPL treatments is 4-6 weeks. This allows enough time for the hair that was in the resting phase (telogen) during the previous session to enter the growth phase (anagen), where it can be effectively treated in the next session.
  3. Prevent Overlapping or Over-Treatment: If treatments are done too close together, you might not be targeting enough hairs in the growth phase, and you could also risk irritating the skin or causing unwanted side effects like redness or burns. The waiting period ensures that your skin heals properly between sessions and that you’re treating hair at the right stages of its growth cycle.

Yes, all of our treatments are performed by licensed and experienced professionals using the latest technology and techniques to ensure your safety and satisfaction.

No, IPL and laser are different technologies. While both use light to treat skin issues, laser treatments use a single wavelength of light, which is more focused, whereas IPL uses a broad spectrum of light. Laser is typically more targeted and can penetrate deeper into the skin, whereas IPL is often gentler and suitable for a wider variety of skin concerns.

The number of treatments depends on the condition being treated and your skin type. Typically, for hair removal, 6-8 sessions spaced about 4-6 weeks apart are recommended. For skin rejuvenation or pigmentation, 4-6 sessions are typical. Results often improve after a series of treatments.

IPL treatments can be slightly uncomfortable but are generally not considered painful. Some clients compare it to the feeling of sun exposure on the skin. The heat sensation comes from the light energy being absorbed by melanin (in hair or pigmentation) which then converts into thermal energy to break down the target.

Cooling mechanisms like built-in skin chillers in IPL devices help manage discomfort. If the heat feels too intense, adjusting the energy settings help make the treatment more comfortable.

Common side effects are mild and may include:

  • Redness or swelling immediately after treatment (like a mild sunburn).
  • Temporary darkening or lightening of the skin.
  • Bruising in the treated area (rare).
Serious side effects are rare but can include burns, blisters, or scarring

  • Avoid sun exposure: Sunburned skin is more sensitive, so avoid sun exposure for at least two weeks before treatment.
  • Avoid tanning: Tanning (from sun or tanning beds) should be avoided for a few weeks before treatment.
  • Shave the treatment area: If you are getting IPL for hair removal, shave the area beforehand to help the light target the hair follicle.

  • Avoid sun exposure: Your skin will be more sensitive to UV light after the treatment, so it’s important to wear sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure.
  • Moisturize: Keep the treated area moisturized to promote healing.
  • Avoid hot showers and harsh skincare products: For at least 24 hours after treatment, avoid very hot showers or any products that might irritate the skin.

The results of IPL can be long-lasting, but maintenance treatments may be necessary over time, especially for conditions like hair removal, which may require occasional touch-ups.

You should avoid IPL if you have:

  • A history of skin cancer or pre-cancerous lesions.
  • Active acne, open wounds, or infections in the treatment area.
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding (due to limited research on safety).
  • Certain medical conditions (e.g., lupus, herpes simplex virus, or severe psoriasis).
  • Recent use of photosensitizing medications.

Costs can vary depending on the area being treated and the number of sessions needed.
